Thrifting Frenzy

You already know I'm a hoarder.

I have a garage full of items for my booth

So do I need to continue to thrift?

No.

Yes.

Anyway.

Here are my latest goodies...........

Proving that I do part with things, these went in the booth and already sold.......

And in more booth news, Relics recently offered dealers the chance to have a link on their official site, so you know I jumped on that.

However, I don't know anything about WordPress, so it's a work in progress.  WordPress geniuses of the world.......how do you make pictures larger?

And how is it already July?

Slow it down summer.

This Week (in Instagram)

This recap takes me all the way back to last Friday........to the annual garage sale.......where Nancy and I showed up in matching shirts........

We love our Kelly.

And yes, someone did buy the Christmas tree.

*   *   *   *

We attended a fun little gathering Sunday evening.........

And while there was a fire, we didn't make S'mores.

Why?

Because I got busy in the kitchen earlier that day and made Baked S'mores (no fire necessary)......

These are so good.  Simple recipe too.  One I'll put on repeat for sure.

*   *   *   *

Public Service Announcement:  Steak 'n Shake has red velvet milkshakes right now........

Being too lazy to make dinner the other night led to this realization.

See the benefits of being lazy?

You should probably go try one.  (They have salted caramel too.)

*   *   *   *

When your parents tell you that their neighbor is getting rid of some things, you check it out.........

And then they tell you it's all free.

Free.  Vintage.  Plant stand.

Forget the booth.

Get on my porch!

Tribal Print Obsession

I'm not joking.

I am totally obsessed with all things tribal.

I went to look for a dress to wear to an upcoming wedding and came home with two tribal print items instead.

First up, this Forever 21 top......

similar

It was only $12.80!!!

For that price, it would basically be unjust to not own it.

Right?

The next item I found was at a local boutique, Red Poppy.

But I need your help.  This is my first maxi skirt.

Do I tuck my top into the skirt or not?

similar

And is black the best color to pair with it?

HELLLLLP!!!!

Now, did I find a dress to wear to that wedding?

I did not.

But that just gives me another reason to go shopping.

Cilantro Lime Roasted Corn

Another year, another garage sale.

We all survived the 7th Annual Event this weekend.

It was a success.  And super fun ~ prancercising anyone?

Anyway.

Speaking of success, I dabbled in a corn on the cob recipe recently.  We liked it so much, that I decided to branch out and try my own concoction for corn on the cob.

I had leftover stuffing for those peppers I made last week.  And I thought, "I wonder if that cream cheese mixture would be good on roasted corn?"

So I gave it a shot.

And yes!  Yes, that cream cheese mixture WAS good on roasted corn.

Cilantro Lime Roasted Corn
(for the grill)

ears of corn (up to 6)
4 oz. cream cheese (softened)
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1/8 cup crumbled feta
2 teas. lime juice
1 teas. cumin
1/4 teas. garlic salt
butter, salt, and pepper

In a medium sized bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with the cumin and garlic salt.  Add the lime juice and feta.  Finally, stir in the cilantro.  Set aside.

Brush corn with butter, salt, and pepper.  Wrap ears in foil.  Roast on the grill (top rack) for 15-20 minutes, turning the corn every five minutes.  When corn is done, remove from the grill and carefully open the foil, letting the steam out.  Let the corn cool for about two minutes.  Using a butter knife, spread the cream cheese mixture on the corn.  Chow down immediately.

 *   *   *   *

If you have leftover cream cheese, use it as a veggie dip.  Or stuff some peppers

Looks like I'm making a dent in my summer list.

Still haven't re-cleaned the special room though.

Random Wednesday

I had intended on typing up a post about my Father's Day outfit........

But I got sidetracked.

I've been consumed by two things this week.

Prepping for our annual garage sale this Friday and Saturday..........

And watching this..........

I've got about four episodes left and then I'll be caught up.

#obsessed

I hear the season three finale will make me want to throw things.

I promise not to take it out on you if you stop by our garage sale this weekend.

But I might count back your change with an English accent.

Cilantro Lime Stuffed Peppers

A few weeks ago, when I was writing my summer list, I added "grill more veggies".

Specifically, attempt to make the famous Pullan stuffed peppers.

Every time we visit the Pullan's house, they make these for dinner.  We love them.

(The peppers and the Pullans.)

When the mister asked what was in the peppers, I knew we had to give it a shot at home.  So armed with the list of ingredients, we set out to try them.

The only real amount I knew was for cream cheese.  Everything else was a guess.

I guess my guessing worked.

We ate two dozen peppers that night..........

Cilantro Lime Stuffed Peppers
(for the grill)

2 dozen small peppers
8 oz. cream cheese (softened)
1/3 cup chopped cilantro
1/4 cup crumbled feta
1 tbsp. lime juice
2 teas. cumin
1/2 teas. garlic salt

In a medium sized bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with the cumin and garlic salt.  Add the lime juice and feta.  Finally, stir in the cilantro.  Set aside to prepare the peppers.

After rinsing the peppers, barely trim off the top.  Using an citrus peeler (or melon baller) scoop out the seeds.  Once the pepper is clean, stuff about a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture inside the pepper.  Line peppers up on a large sheet of foil.  Once all peppers are placed, wrap the foil around the peppers.  Set the foil on the top rack of your grill for about 7-8 minutes (our grill cooks slowly).

*The cook time really depends on your taste.  We don't like our peppers to be too mushy, so we like a shorter cook time. We even love to eat them raw!

*   *   *   *

This recipe can really be tailored to your likes.  As far as amounts go, I really did just guess......then taste......then write it down when I liked it.  You could even add jalapeno or bacon for fun.

And speaking of fun, with the Fourth of July coming up and BBQ invites galore, you could bring these as a side!

With a package of sparklers.

Because everyone like sparklers.

This Week (in Instagram)

I hit up Silver Dollar City with my sis and her bebes.......

Taffy is a requirement when visiting SDC.

*   *   *   *

I tried out a "diy shellac" found on Pinterest........

You need time and patience for this.

One coat of the gel, then dry time.  Two coats of any polish, with dry time in between.  Top it off with one layer of the top coat.

It lasted about three days.  So better than your average polish, but not as good as a legit shellac.

*   *   *   *

Got my first pool visit in with the sis.........

We'll just call my niece "Diving Board Diva" because she was glued to that thing all afternoon.

*   *   *   *

And while we're talking about the little diva, here she is again at her recital the other night..........

I am basically positive that she is the most beautiful ballerina in all the land.

*   *   *   *

And finally.

My friend Pullan is very good at getting creative birthday gifts.

We had both talked about trying out a hot yoga class, so she surprised me with a gift certificate.  I loved this gift.

Last night, we went to our first class........

And as stated on Instagram, it was the "day I almost died".

When they call it hot yoga, they mean hot yoga.  87 degrees hot.

I lived through summer after summer of band camp as a color guard instructor.

I know what hot is.

But this.

A whole different level of hot.  I.could.not.breathe.  And sweat.  Ohhhhh the sweat.

I'd rather go running.

And we all know my track record with that.

Two more classes to go.

What I Wore (to a recital)

Last night I had a recital to attend.

The cutest little ballerina ever ~ my niece ~ was taking the stage.

Usually, when I head to events like this I dress for winter.  Auditoriums are always so cold.

But Missouri is finally feeling like summer.  So since it was a 90 degree day, I decided to brave the potentially Arctic air and wear shorts.........

flats //  shirt  //  scarf  (Express ~ sold out)  //  shorts (similar)

I threw on the scarf at the last minute in an attempt to pattern mix (and be warm).

Black gingham with a black tribal scarf:  yes or no?

I guess it's too late now.

At least the auditorium was dark.

Thrifting Frenzy

In the last few weeks I've picked up a few things here and there at the thrift.

Some to keep (of course)!

And a few things for the booth.

One item that is already at Relics is this afghan..........

It.  Is.  HUGE!

*   *   *   *

Both of these will make it to the booth eventually........

You know I can't resist suitcases (and they sell quickly).

 *   *   *   *

This coffeepot has all of its pieces........

Some fun glassware.......

A rug........

And one Pyrex piece........

Here's the problem:  I don't collect this pattern.

But it's turquoise.

So now maybe I should collect this pattern.

Or change my Pyrex rule to:  Keep all turquoise Pyrex no matter what the pattern is

That sounds fair.

Weekly Recap (in Instagram)

The first week of summer was a good one.

I have to go back to work next week for curriculum training, so I thought I'd really do this week up!  (Even though the training is just for a day and a half.)

I even started checking things off my to-do list

First up, succulent planting......

Once I found the right piece of vintage pottery and the correct soil, I went for it.

Please live little plants.

Please.

*   *   *   *

I went to a concert down in Arkansas.......

My college roommate had free tickets.

Elton John puts on quite a show.  Amazing performer.  Should I admit this was my second time seeing him?

You haven't lived til you've heard B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets live.

*   *   *   *

Lunch dates are my favorite.  (We checked one tea room off our list.)

Dessert trips afterward are a close second.......

Peanut butter ice cream from Elle's.  With Nancy and Schlag.  Good times.

*   *   *   *

Last night I tried out two more Pinterest recipes.......

Baked Dijon Salmon and Mexican Street Corn...........both keepers.

Since I worked so hard on this dinner, shouldn't I get the weekend off from cooking?

I think yes.

*   *   *   *

I sort of bought a vintage postcard rack at Relics......

I really try not to shop when I'm in there checking my booth.

But when something goes from "not for sale ~ display only" to "$17.95" you buy it immediately.

Even when you have no plans for it.

But think of all the possibilities!  Cards at Christmas?  A photo holder?

What would you do with it?

What I Wore (to my high school reunion)

Over the weekend I attended my high school reunion.

Friday and Saturday were both held at downtown venues.  So while they were casual events, I wanted to wear something other than blue jeans (but still be comfortable).

I thought ivory and black skinnies with simple tees and fun shoes would do the trick...........

ivory skinnies  //  red tee  //  black skinnies  //  striped tee

(Never mind our tall grass.  It has since been dealt with.)

Anyway.

The reunion was great.

I'll admit that I wasn't all that excited about going, but I'm so glad I did.  I had way more fun than I ever anticipated.

Walking down memory lane was a good way to kick off summer.

Even if it meant fog machines and director's chairs........

Who ever thought this was a good idea?
