Living for the Weekend

Last weekend was a complete disaster. I had great plans that I was looking forward to. Then I got sick. For the entire weekend, I was sprawled on the couch. And plans had to be canceled.

With the sickness being banished this weekend, I had some more great plans. All of which, I was able to enjoy. For instance, breakfast with Ash at Gailey's! I've always wanted to eat at this cute little place, and this weekend I got to! Of course, I love all things vintage, and this restaurant fit the bill.

The weekend didn't pass by without some worry though. The threat of that tsunami really got to me Saturday morning. With my sister and her family still in Hawaii, I was a ball of nerves until it finally passed with the blink of an eye. All the hype turned out to be nothing, and I was thankful for it.

Later we had dinner with some great friends, and I even got to roll my car windows down a pinch because the weather was so great. I'm now officially longing for spring. So is my lawn and the crocuses that are popping up near my driveway.

To help welcome spring, I bought a new scarf......

And found another new version of Dr. Pepper lip gloss......

And bought something fun to read, since sadly, I'm done with the Twilight series (yes, I loved the series, once I quit resisting) and love all things Bachelor related..........

And now I'm left with looking forward to next weekend (including a trip to the spring open house of my fave antique shop).

I can't believe March is upon us.........and spring break is only 19 days away!

Gross, Gross, Gross

Recently, during an inside recess, a toy skittered across the floor and under my desk. As I leaned down to retrieve it for the kiddo, I made this horrific discovery:

Yes, that is a huge dustbunny/hairball attached to the bottom of my desk chair.

I think I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw it.

Then I cracked up.

I was too afraid to remove it. It really grossed me out. But not only that, I sort of wanted to see how long it hangs around. Like a little experiment.

Oh, Charlie.......

Memory Lane

Lots of things can take you back..............

A song............

Although just one of many, I'm immediately transported back to high school when I hear it........and I can conjure up specific places and memories associated with songs like this. I would even try to catch favorite songs on the radio to record with my boom box! Oh, the tapes I made......

A movie...........I am reminded of being
totally freaked out as a 9 or 10 year old, when the cute and cuddly Gizmo transformed into a nightmare inducing monster! I think I spent most of the movie peeking through my fingers. I can't believe my parents let me watch this movie!

Even fashion........two years ago I never would have thought that I'd be THRILLED that skinny jeans were BACK............I was adamantly against their revival, initially. But now I wear them happily, however, not with scrunchy socks and high top Reeboks.......

But even after all that, nothing takes me back more immediately than this:

Elementary gym class had many disadvantages: volleyball, dribbling skills...........the list is long.

But it also had its advantages, the parachute being one of them. Every year, Mr. Steele would get the record player out, along with the multicolored parachute, and gym would be heaven on earth for a few weeks. Nothing thrilled me more, with the exception of his gymnastics/tumbling unit.

And as I stared down into the gym last week, Mr. Steele (who is now a coworker) was coaching my class in the ways of the parachute. I even think that same record was playing when I went down to join my them.

There's no better way to be transported back in time than by joining in on the fun. So for the last five minutes of gym, I followed the directions of the grainy sounding record, along with my class. And laughed and smiled. And remembered.

Sweet childhood memories.....

Eight Months In

Let me clarify: eight months since I got married.

In those eight months, I've been surprised to discover a few things. Funny things. Harmless really......

We go through laundry detergent, toilet paper, and milk at warp speed.

Let's discuss this further:
  • Milk ~ Now I love milk, don't get me wrong. But Kenny drinks it as if it sustains life. He likes it so much that he buys two gallons at a time. And we still go through it like it's going out of style. One ~of many~ positive notes to mention: Kenny will go grocery shopping by himself. He'll call to see if we need anything on the way home from work. I LOVE THIS! This is GOOD. And yes, we usually need milk, detergent, or toilet paper.
  • Toilet paper ~ This one is hard to explain, yet not. Seems like I didn't have trouble keeping it in stock before I had a roomie. Now it's about as bad as keeping enough milk in the house. Luckily, I haven't had to resort to taking it from work just yet.
  • Laundry detergent ~ For me, a bottle of this could last months. But now it seems as if we buy it as often as I fill up the tank in my car. This one I can explain though: Kenny is very particular about his laundry. He usually does one to two small loads a day. He does it himself (another positive), not because I'm incapable, but because I forget to use dryer sheets. I never use dryer sheets. He is a firm believer in dryer sheets. Thus, I don't do his laundry. I forget the dryer sheets. I've learned that dryer sheets are important. To him. Very. But..............
I think I'll keep him anyway.
