Love and Hate

Love......

Fallifying the front porch with fairy tale pumpkins and mums.

And farmers' market flowers on my dining room table.

Hate.......

That the special room is all junked up again.

I go through these phases where it's all clean.  And I can leave the door open.  And people can see it.

Then we have company or something.

And I use it to hide piles of laundry.  Or my hoarded thrifted finds that haven't quite made it to the booth yet.

I'm so ashamed.

Mad for Plaid

What do you do when you run to the mall for one thing and end up in Express by accident because a tartan shirt catches your eye?

You buy the beautiful red plaid top........

red plaid

Then whilst checking out, you spot another outstanding blue plaid blouse that you should probably own too.......

blue plaid

So you add that to the tab.

No self control.

Anyway.

I am sold on this tartan/plaid trend that's happening this fall.  Now if I could find a tartan scarf for winter, I'd be set.

And who ever heard of running into the mall for one thing?

Ridiculous.

A letter....

Dear Fall,

You are almost here.  And while I hate to rush days like this.......

I will welcome you with open arms.

When you arrive, I plan to wear the heck outta my new boots......

Drape scarves over cozy sweaters.........

And buy lots of fancy pumpkins for my porch.......

But I'll be honest.  I've sort of cheated.

I couldn't wait for your crisp fall temps to get here, so I had to at least sample some tastes of autumn to tide me over.

Like those pumpkin spice M&M's that Target carries......

And then there was the locally roasted coffee I bought.........

I might have even ordered a pumpkin spice latte (or two) from Starbucks.

It's because I love you.

You are my favorite.  (Except we need to talk about that whole having-to-rake-leaves thing.)

See you soon!

Love,

Danavee

Quesadilla Pie

I haven't posted a recipe in quite some time.

Maybe because in the summer, I'm less apt to experiment in the kitchen, which makes absolutely no sense, since I have two months off.

It's just how I operate.  When I'm off, I embrace all parts of being off.

Now that school is back in session, I am motivated to get into routine.  That means my version of menu planning begins:  Pick a few recipes for the week that will yield a night or two of leftovers.

This last week a new Pinterest find was on the menu.  And it will continue to make the rotation as it was insane.  Insanely tasty......

Quesadilla Pie
(adapted from original source)

1 can (4.5 oz) chopped green chiles
1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained, rinsed
1 medium tomato, chopped
1 can (10 oz) green chile enchilada sauce
1 1/2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2/3 cup of salsa verde
1/2 pound ground beef
2 teas. cumin
4 flour tortillas
sour cream

Preheat the oven to 400.  Spray a 9 inch pie dish with cooking spray.  Brown hamburger and drain.  Mix the cumin with the hamburger in a large bowl.  Add the drained black beans, green chiles, 1/4 cup cilantro, green enchilada sauce, pepper jack cheese, and 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese to the hamburger and mix well.  Spread 1/3 cup of the salsa verde to the bottom of the pie plate.  Lay a tortilla on top.  Layer a 1/3 of the hamburger mixture over the tortilla.  Top this layer with a tortilla.  Repeat layering of salsa and hamburger mixture twice to make three layers.  Add the remaining tortilla on top and cover with foil.  Bake for 30 minutes.  Remove and top with remaining cheddar cheese, then bake for an additional 5 to 7 minutes without the foil.  Garnish with remaining cilantro and chopped tomatoes.  Serve with a side of sour cream, tortilla chips, and additional salsa verde.

We absolutely loved this dish.  It was even great leftover the next night.  It's a keeper.

And since I was attempting to menu plan, I decided to make cilantro lime chicken tacos a few days later to use up some of the remaining ingredients from this recipe.

Thrifty right?

When things from my booth find a new home....

I get way excited when I find out where things from my booth end up.  It's always such a fun surprise.

Like when I saw a vintage suitcase from my booth in a post from a local blogger awhile back.

Or when a new Springfieldian happened across my booth, then my blog, and told me she went home with some placemats and potholders.  (Then gave me some goodies for my booth for free!!!!  What a gal!!!)

Another friend saw a post this summer where I sadly proclaimed I was purging some of my favorites.  She rushed to Relics and purchased a beloved metal plant stand.  Then she sent me a photo of how she staged it in her home......

But even more recently, a fellow teacher and blogger (who has a house I adore) posted about her paint-by-number gallery wall.  Annnnd included in it was a desert scene from my booth......

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKK!

Giddy times!!!!!

So to these friends, thank you for supporting the ole booth.  I really do appreciate it.  I love seeing these goodies in your homes.

You validate my thrifting choices.
