Happy Anniversary

One year ago today, the mister and I took the plunge. He proposed on the last day of school, and a week later we were saying, "I do!"

This last year has been wonderful. I've learned some funny things about him (and us) in the meantime, and I still can't wait to get home every night after work.

Happy 1st anniversary to the mister......

A Solution (sort of)

Since I now have a coffeepot on my counter, I had to balance the hatred I feel towards it with something I completely adore.

And I think I've found that something.

I knew exactly what I wanted. I found a few on ebay even.

But I wanted it now. And without shipping costs. So I took myself to four antique shops looking for it.

And B.I.N.G.O.

Shop number four yielded me exactly what I wanted......

A vintage "hoosier" jar with the word coffee embossed on the front. It was even in a booth featuring 20% off.

And if I'm being honest, now that I've experienced life with a coffeepot, and I can have cup after cup (doctored up just right) I'll admit that it's not so bad having this new appliance junking up my counter space. Especially now that I've got my new vintage jar right next to it.

My solution (sort of).

And to further add to my happiness, the first Farmers' Market flowers of the year were purchased this weekend!

I brought them home and arranged them in a vintage vase that I got at an auction a few years ago.

(Please ignore the paneled wall in the background...it's not called a fixer upper for nothing.)

I love the pink flowers, but have no idea what they are! Help, folks! I'd love to grow them in my backyard. Anyone, anyone?

Flat Tires

What do you do when you get a flat tire?

You pull into the nearest parking lot.

Even if it is the Pony Club Cabaret.

And you laugh.

And you take pictures (while the mister changes the tire).

Blabbing

The dog: Sir Chester does not like baths.

At all.

Our first attempt was quite catastrophic. I ended up fully clothed in the tub with Sir Chester ~ shower doors closed ~ as to avoid an escape. All the while, the mister laughed on the other side of the closed shower door.

We had made a deal. I gladly said I'd be in charge of the bath if he'd de-tick.

I don't do ticks.

I'm not so sure I got the better end of the deal.

Maybe I DO do ticks now.

Dogs can flail their paws, just so you know.

A new appliance: Got a coffee pot finally.

My heart broke a little upon placing it on the counter. It's in the most inconspicuous place I could find.

Oh well.

If this makes no sense to you, click HERE. I know I'm strange.

Whatever.

Sir Chester

It all started with a missed call and a voicemail Monday morning that I really didn't give any thought to. The mister's mom found a stray in her neighborhood. Would we be interested?

Well, the dog conversation HAD been a huge topic of discussion the last few months. So this question wasn't off base by any means. But we were still waffling with the idea. No minds had been made up.

We had lots of ideas about what kind of dog it would be. I sort of wanted to adopt a retired greyhound or whippet. The mister had his top picks too. But we weren't completely committed to taking the leap just yet.

Until yesterday.

Like I said, the voicemail didn't leave me yearning. I had no intentions of being a dog owner by evening.

The mister's mom called again after work. This time, we agreed to meet the dog with no expectations of bringing it home. I was pretty resolute in my stance. The mister was solid too. We were humoring at this point.

But my strong facade was destroyed the moment I saw him. He had me at ruff-ruff. It was love at first sight. And I'm pretty sure the mister was smitten just as fast.....

Meet Sir Chester! In the few hours we've had him, I've fallen more in love. We've learned a few things already:
  • He fetches quite nicely.
  • He understands the word NO.
  • He hasn't barked once.
  • He's just the right amount of playful.
  • He slept in his kennel all night without making a peep (knock on wood).
  • He tries to hide his chew toys.
  • He likes chasing rabbits in our backyard, and boy is he fast.
  • He likes the outdoors.
After losing Bud last year, I wasn't sure if I was ready for another dog. But I think Sir Chester was meant to be. My heart is bursting with happiness and love for this little rescue.

Stupid

It was that time again recently.

Driver's license renewal time.

I was apprehensive about it. Did I have all the correct documentation? Could I even find my birth certificate? What if I didn't pass the eye exam? I don't wear glasses or contacts, and I haven't noticed a deterioration, but if anything could go wrong, wouldn't that be it?

But really, that should have been the least of my worries.

Little did I know (or remember from ten years ago) that they also quiz you on road signs. Blank roadsigns. With color and symbols only. No words.

I get that words would defeat the purpose. But seriously?

I had a small moment upon this realization. But it was over in no time, and relief washed over me. Stop sign, no U-turn, merge, no left turn, traffic light ahead.........no problem! And then it was time for my picture to be taken.

I left smiling like a Cheshire cat with a new license in hand. The gal even let me preview my picture to make sure I liked it. I was pleased as punch.

Until about a mile down the road, when that smile disappeared as I realized something. This was NOT a yield sign, as I had confidently stated during the quiz..........

Without the words Do Not Enter, one could easily confuse it for the yield sign, right? Think about seeing it blank......just a red circle and white rectangle. Yield wasn't that far off, was it?

That pleased, possibly smug feeling I had had was immediately washed away with feelings of stupidity.

Panic replaced glee.

Once I got home, I immediately googled road signs. How many did I get wrong?

My license was renewed, so I shouldn't care, right? But the straight A student and perfectionist in me was still beating myself up.

Oh well. Five out of six ain't bad, I guess....

Finalists

The finalists have been revealed in the Ugly Bath Contest. I'll reserve my opinion of the entries so that you may form your own and choose your favorite. Find the finalists here: Ugly Bath Contest. And if one strikes you, then vote!

I'm still not quite over not being a finalist. I thought seeing the finalists would make me feel better.

It didn't.
