I might have another addiction when it comes to thrifting.
My vintage dress collection is growing.
Less than six months ago, I wouldn't even walk down the clothing aisles in thrift stores.
Now I make a beeline to the skirts and dresses. And recently, I have hit the jackpot. My two latest finds don't even need altered. I just have to decide if they are worthy of being seen in public.
The first frock is reminiscent of the disco era. Scooped back, ruched sleeves. I feel like I should feather my hair Charlie's Angel style when I wear it.......
This baby was only $3.98. And the thrifted belt was only $0.99.
Did you just faint?
Frock number two, however, is a little more questionable. Not the fit or how much I love it, but the style. I'm not even sure what era this is from...........
I am sure the mister would not be seen alongside me if this is what I donned for the day.
But the color. The pleats. The neckline. And it was only $5.98.
Sigh.
So please tell me. Steer me in the right direction. Are these beauties meant to be worn in public??
Or should I just hang them like art in my spare bedroom and look at them longingly from time to time?

Ok totally loving the first dress! Love the fun colors the belt and the scooped back! yea I would say that is public worthy!
ReplyDeleteI agree; I think the first dress is very cute! Maybe you could pair the blue dress with a very wide leather belt? Or have it altered so that the top looks like a halter? I think that dress is all about the neckline and ruffled bottom. The sleeves might be throwing it off. I like it though!
ReplyDeleteHALTER!?!?! Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!! Love that idea!
DeleteOMG, FABULOUS! You look amazing and the dresses are too pretty seriously, I like them the way they are. - Sam
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteI love both of these dresses!!
ReplyDeleteI would def wear them!!
Um, I somehow love the second dress. Maybe the right accessories can help it be more comfortable for wearing in public. Or what about making it sleeveless? (Says the girl who can't sew a button.)
ReplyDeleteI looove that first one! The collar on the second dress is throwing me off a little bit. Just a bit. Great finds either way, though. plus! how awesome is it that they don't have to be tailored to fit!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I think something needs to change with the blue dress!
DeleteIf you kept the second, I would advise taking the sleeves off. I think it would look fabulous but with those sleeves, drags it down for me. Not sure if that is easy or not to alter. I think it would be fun though with your hair up and your arms showing :) (take this with a grain of salt, I haven't been "fashionable" in over nine months ha)
ReplyDeleteYou are always fashionable! I like this idea!!!!
DeleteDefinitely agree that the first dress and belt is fantastic just the way it is and should be worn out in public. The second dress reminds of one my grandma wore to my wedding a long time ago. I like it but I think it needs some updating - for sure a different belt, in my opinion. Great finds and great prices!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA! Love your honesty. Because that's what I was worried about. It IS a grandma dress!
DeleteWe Missourians are honest people, you know! I still like the dress and think its a keeper - I just think you need to make it more modern.
DeleteI think if you cut off the sleeves of that blue one and wore it with a cardigan it would totally be appropriate for this era-- I think it's the sleeves that leave you back in the past.
ReplyDeleteI think you are correct! I totally needed to hear it though! Wouldn't have come up with that without your help!!!
DeleteI agree with the others...make the blue dress sleeveless and it will look so fresh and modern!

Thank you!!!! I am loving your giveaway item!!! Crossing my fingers!
DeleteFirst one is super cute and I'd leave it as is. I agree with going sleeveless on the second and pairing it with accessories that will make the blue pop!! More fabulous finds as always!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with revamping the blue one. I would shorten it a bit, take the sleeves off, wear with a super cute cardigan, chunky multiple necklaces and some of those great brown boots you have this fall and it would be amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYes to belts and cardigans!!!! Sounds like I'm losing the sleeves! I never would have thought to do that!
DeleteI love the first dress as is. The second dress I would shorten the sleeves to 3/4 length and change the belt out for a wide one. Its a great color and has promise. I know what you mean about your hubby not being seen with you. Mine HATES when I buy vintage dresses. He doesn't care whether they are in, he just knows his mom used to wear them. :) Found you at WIWW. New follower.

DeleteHell yeah....they MUST go public...both of them! I am in LOVE and need you to thrift for me!!! I want that pleated dress!!!! Pretty please, with cherries on top!!!

wow great outfits girl! just wanted to say super cute blog! you should check out the giveaway im having over at my blog! it ends friday! xo
ReplyDeleteWow, I did just faint a little when I saw that first dress. Great find! I'm going to echo what everyone else is saying about the second dress. Definitely lose the sleeves. After that, I think you have another great dress on your hands. I've found that shortening the hem and/or removing the sleeves can update just about any vintage dress.

Thank you for weighing in! I'm excited about chopping off the sleeves!!!!
DeleteLove your newest finds!! I totally agree with everyone though the blue dress needs to a little update. Excellent find and PRICE!!
ReplyDeleteI love both of these looks but the first dress just stole my heart. It's absolutely amazing. What a great find! Popping in from the Pleated Poppy.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!! Yep, I snapped it up as fast as I could!!!!
DeleteI think the stripey dress would look more updated at a shorter length. Maybe even as a mini. Love the colors on it!
ReplyDeleteThe mint/aqua one is probably from the late seventies/early eighties and is amazing as is! I would totally rock it with a brightly colored belt and platforms or wedges. If you want to change it, a 3/4 sleeve would be great on it. ;)
I like them both. Great colours and if you wear with confidence it will work!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, confidence will be key, if I wear the blue one!!!
DeleteLike both dresses!
ReplyDeleteHonestly I'm not sure about the second one!
ReplyDeleteTransatlantic Blonde
HA! I know. It's a bit grandma-esque!?!?!
DeleteYou my dear can pull off just about anything and both of these dress are no exception. The blue dress reminds me of a Tiffany's, the color just makes me happy. And, the first dress, fits you like a glove. Both are perfect.
ReplyDeleteI like them both!
ReplyDeletelove both - great job
ReplyDeleteXo Megan
I like this post; I think with a few alterations, both pieces could have a lot of potential. Hopefully, we'll see them featured on the blog soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!! Once I get the nerve to chop into them I'll post them!
DeleteSo pleased to find your blog - have enjoyed looking back over your older posts. I love both dresses..I think the striped one has the most potential if it was shortened. The turquoise one I can't decide whether it would work well as a tunic? Maybe with the sleeves shortened? I'm not good at this really, am I?!! Lol. Love a thrifted bargain and you certainly hit the jackpot here! Have a great day, greetings from rainy Belfast, Northern Ireland, Avril x
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog!! That striped dress is gorgeous on you!! Xo

we totally need to start an amazing ninety-nine cent belt club! =)
ReplyDeletethe first dress is perfect and you need to wear it everywhere, everyday. i love it!
the second dress is more of an evening dress, methinks. you should book a dinner-with-the-girls night asap and rock that frock. it's really lovely.
I really think you should take the blue dress to a tailor and have them cut the sleeves and taper the armholes in toward that sweet collar. I'm not sure what the name of the neckline is but I hope you get what I'm saying. And definitely go with another belt. The pink striped dress is totally adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your idea! Yes, there is NO way I'M cutting it up! I'll leave it to the professionals!!!

Okay, if you don't like them I'd take them. hahahaha... Totally public worthy. Why not! They are lovely and my fave is the blue one as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI make a beeline straight to the bookshelf (I'm such a nerd) and then to the skirts...
ReplyDeleteI actually like both of the dresses as well. All you need is a stunning pair of sky high heel, a great clutch, and sweep your hair back and your babe won't be able to take his eyes off of you!
Great finds-as usual!
